The Hero Holiday at Mount Cook was really well organised, with just the right amount of information at the right time.I went into the workshop with issues around composition, focus and how to get the most out of my gear. The way how Rob and Dennis approached these topics, while spreading the learning process over several days and locations, was awesome. Even the first “recap” session about exposure and focus was excellent. So nice to be out in the tussocks, rather than in a stuffy lecture room. I’ve been on a few courses before, and only one of them came close to being as well organised and structured. I think the syllabus flowed really well, and the locations were brilliant. I was also impressed with the health and safety approach.Overall, it was the best photography course I’ve attended. I came away from it thinking it was absolutely the right investment to make.
Rob and Dennis gave amazing insights into how to make my photos stand out from composition through to processing. Their easy-going and helpful nature made the process very enjoyable.
Learning how to use my camera in manual mode in only one workshop? I found this to be great value for money. Dennis and Rob were both amazing, fun and inspiring.Carrying handout and cheat-sheet with me, I make more of an effort to get out and shoot. I recommend joining the Facebook group afterwards. It is great to see how the others are doing, and get feedback on my photos.
All I can really say is thank you. Thank you both for your expertise, thank you for your inspiration and guidance. Thank you for the great trip planning, and above all, thank you for bringing a group of like-minded folks together.
Rob and Dennis were the ultimate professionals who shared heaps of valuable knowledge, including apps, planning and safety equipment. We applied that knowledge at awesome locations! The excellent organization and planning meant that not a moment of the long days was wasted. It was also great to hang out with a like-minded group of enthusiastic people. I would recommended the Hero Holiday to others without hesitation.
I greatly enjoyed the Essentials run in a beautiful setting at Hagley Park. Dennis & Rob put the group at ease immediately, and were very easy to understand. Since I had not used a DSLR in several years, the Essentials were the perfect refresher course for me.I look forward to doing more workshops with Dennis and Rob. Their passion in photography has definitely reignited my interest in the art. I would not hesitate to recommend this course to a friend.
My daughter and I attended the Hero Essentials workshop in Hagley Park, where we learned about the intricacies of the exposure triangle. My daughter, who studies NCEA level 2 photography, used her new knowledge in her portfolio right away. We loved the relaxed but informative teaching style of Rob and Dennis, so we signed up for the Hero Holiday at Mt Cook. The location was perfect for practicing the concepts of landscape photography. The most important thing I learned was instead of randomly clicking and hoping for the best, to first think about what sort of picture I want.Rob and Dennis’ knowledge about all things photography is seemingly endless. Their enthusiasm was infectious. The weekend was FANTASTIC!
Many of us buy a DSLR camera and use a tenth of its ability. Hero Workshops gave me the knowledge to shoot in manual mode with confidence. We learned basic and advanced shooting techniques with like-minded people wanting to improve on their skills. We took home new tools and tips from professional photographers, allowing us to take even more interesting photos.
My partner and I found the workshop both fun and educational, and appreciated the small group size. Dennis and Rob were able to spend some one on one time with everyone over the duration of the afternoon. The structure of discussing the process, then putting it into practice was a great way to learn. We had ample time to ask questions and practice, rather than just learning an overload of theory. Dennis and Rob are both very different photographers. The ability to obtain two opinions was useful. The cheeky banter between them added to the enjoyment of the day. This was a great workshop for the true beginner or the slightly more advanced photographer wanting a refresher.
